Summary: Just a short little ditty that has been bugging me. It's a short Starsky thing from Shootout that popped out at me each time I watch Shootout. I finally sat down and wrote it out. Enjoy.

It's Not Over
by ~Jen Keen

I was finally able to relax a bit as Hutch walked into the room with a bundle of guns wrapped in a tablecloth. He came over to me and told me that it was all over. The bad guys were taken care of, and everything was fine. It wasn't.

I felt horrible. My left side was numb, my head hurt, and I felt kind of strange. I also knew that I was bad off. I've taken first aid courses in the academy and knew that I was probably showing sign of shock. I was cold, yet I was sweating like a pig. I was having some trouble breathing and all I wanted to do was lay my head down and sleep. So when my partner told me it was over, I told him no it wasn't. So, instead of telling him what I really wanted to say, what do I do? I tell em' I'm still hungry! I couldn't bring myself to say thanks and that I love him and he's my best friend.

He looked at me with a somewhat relived expression, but I think he knew just as well as I did that it wasn't quite over yet. It wouldn't be over until I was ok. I felt him wearily sit down beside me and put his head back on the cushions closing his eyes. When the paramedics got there Hutch was wiping some sweat off my forehead and trying to keep me awake. I don't know when, but I must have drifted off because the next thing I know I'm in a hospital bed with Hutch snoring softly in a chair next to my bed.

I felt a whole world better, but the only thing that concerned me a bit was I couldn't feel my left arm at all. I guess I made some sort of noise because Hutch was there, stroking my hair and telling me that I was ok.

"Hutch! I can't feel my arm! Hutch..." I whined fearfully at him.

"It's ok Starsk, It's ok. The doctor said it's only temporary. The bullet hit a bit close to the spine and the swelling needs to go down a bit. You'll be perfectly fine." I closed my eyes and took Hutch's word. He'd never lie to me. My eyes popped open and I looked over at my best friend.

"Hey Hutch?"

"Yes Starsky?"

"Your my best friend you know? Thanks for taking care of me and being there when I need ya. I love ya buddy." I said as I smiled slightly, closing my eyes and drifting off to sleep.

"I love you too buddy. You'd do the same for me any day." Hutch said with a smile and a light touch to my shoulder. I smiled slightly and drifted deeper into sleep, knowing Hutch would be by my side and everything would be ok.

The End.
